PacMar technologies and darpa manta ray project
2023 and 2024 Summer
Purpose:
For my 2023 summer internship worked on an autonomous submarine for of the DARPA Manta Ray Project.
• Accelerated workflow by 2 weeks
Streamlined the computer-aided manufacturing process of marine hull structures by implementing custom automation tools. Leveraged advanced CAD and CAM integration to minimize manual interventions, reducing lead times and boosting production efficiency.
• Reduced production time from 10 to 2 days, cut costs by 3x
Spearheaded the development of an in-house injection molding process for the repair and splicing of subsea cables. By utilizing 3D printing technology, I created custom molds, eliminating the need for external vendors and significantly cutting both production time and costs.
• Developed communication systems for autonomous submarine power management
Designed and implemented a robust communication system in Python and C++ for the diagnostics and control functions of a battery management system. This system enabled real-time monitoring and optimized power distribution in an autonomous submarine.
• Led electrical assembly for a full-scale submarine
Organized and executed the complete electrical assembly of a submarine design using SolidWorks. Coordinated between design, manufacturing, and electrical teams to ensure accuracy in assembly, resulting in a reliable and fully functional electrical system for a large-scale marine project.
• Designed over 150 cable runs to mitigate electromagnetic interference (EMI)
Engineered more than 150 cable runs for various submarine subsystems, optimizing layouts to reduce EMI. Prioritized both signal integrity and efficient use of space, while ensuring proper routing to minimize cable length and material costs.
• CAD and FEA with big assemblies on SolidWorks and PDM for mounts, structures, and electrical systems.
